In every room Garland Thomas entered, the air shifted—not from a breeze, but from his presence. He wasn't just the man who walked in, smiled, and spoke; he was the thermostat, the one who set the temperature of the room with an ease that left people in awe. It wasn't just his knowledge, though that was vast, or his quick wit that danced like sparks in conversation. It was the way he drew on his life, which was larger than most could imagine, to keep everyone warm with laughter or cool under pressure. Garland had lived many lives in one, each chapter filled with stories of adventure, lessons learned, and an ever-growing family who seemed as boundless as his experiences. And like a well-set thermostat, he had the perfect touch to make anyone comfortable. In tense moments, his humor would lighten the air, quick and sharp, like a cool breeze on a hot day. In times of uncertainty, his wisdom would steady the room, calming nerves and bringing balance. He didn't demand attention, but it was impossible not to look his way when he spoke. His family, a reflection of his own enormity of spirit, seemed to stretch across generations and spaces like an intricate network, all connected by his influence. His stories had shaped them, and through them, Garland's legacy spread further than any single room could hold. And so, whether in boardrooms or family dinners, in quiet conversations or moments of celebration, Garland Thomas remained the constant force that set the temperature—bringing warmth, calm, and laughter to all. He was the thermostat, and wherever he was, the room was always just right.

Uncle Garland, I know we don't really know each other that well. But you meant a lot to my father. You were like a father figure to him. And it hurts me to think that you're not with us. But I know that the Lord will take good care of you up in the heavens. Thank you for being an amazing human being. Rest in peace, uncle! Love, Your niece, lily 🤍

Our condolences to my Thomas family. Garland was a father in law to me and a very unique man himself because he showed me love and respect along with what I would call "Garlandism" his quotes and references were funny hilarious and profound. The wisdoms of his life are etched in my heart and mind. Thank you Mr. Thomas for letting me be a part of your life. I salute you Sir. I have known Mr. Thomas as a Nieghbor over 30yrs. He was a pillar of strength, knowledge, information, support and wisdom. He was part of the village that shaped me as a man. He will be sorely missed and always remembered.

Papa Thomas you were one of a kind, funny and a loving father to my sisters Vivi Bridgette Rhonda and Sunny. You made Faye and I feel like we were apart of the family. I remember when my father passed away I was broken at the funeral service but as we left the church I turned around and saw you and Mama Thomas standing behind me and I knew you were standing in for me as a father figure. Thank you and rest in peace Papa Thomas. Tell my dad all is well sending hugs and kisses

Dad, the words in one of your favorite songs "Nature Boy" by Nat King Cole, plays over and over again in my mind when I think of you. "There was a boy, a very strange enchanted boy.... They say he wondered very far, very far over land and sea.... A little shy, and sad of eye, but very wise was he...." You spoke in several languages and have taught us many things that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. Some of which include but are not limited to, "Ichiban" (number one), "Sayonara" (so-long) to name a few. Your time has come, we've said our goodbyes as you drifted on to your everlasting life to be with mom and your grand-daughter Ashley who you only now know has gone before you. You've gone on to be with Jesus. It's not so-long, but see you later. Love Chosen

Dad, I have so many fond memories: You cutting the grass and hedges at 10520 until dark; Bringing home stray dogs and moma fussing but we kept all of them my favorite was Diablo the Shepherd; Drivng your car with the left arm hanging out the window; Your countless jobs in addition to working as a blacksmith forging steel at US STEEL; delivery driver for Rossi's pizza on Stony Island and bringing home pizza pies; Tele-typist at Chicago's City News Room where you took me with you a couple of nights after I completed a Summer course in typing at Cortez W. Peters. Hoppie loved being with and around you. Thank you dad. Love you dad. "nose your popa"

Dad you are truly one of a kind. The adage...The Man, The Myth, The Legend embodies you to the fullest. Anyone who met you remembered you and there were many. You had so many friends and you outlived most of them. You are free now dad. Free to drop in and visit all your family and friends without notice just like you use to. Your girls will miss you most but well be okay in the end because we were with you every step of the way. Carry on dad and remember what Slim Pickens said. I love you dad.
