Obituary For Lawrence Jenkins
“No tomorrows.
Unable to remember yesterday...
we live for today.”
Glynn Taylor as Preacher in Cooley High (1975)
Lawrence Chad Jenkins was born on January 30, 1974 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Cornelius I
and Lucy Mae Jenkins. He was the second child of this union which included his older sister,
Tonya, and younger brother, Cornelius II. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptised
at Christ Universal Temple under the leadership of Pastor Moore.
As a Chicago native, Lawrence spent his formative years living in the Austin area on the west
side of the city. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1992, he then attended the
Chicago Learning Center and graduated with his certification in computer operations.
Lawrence met the love of his life and cherished wife, Shounda Jenkins, in 1999. The two were
wedded a few years later on April 19, 2001. They were married for 23 years until Lawrence’s
passing. Together, they raised three daughters: Jasmin, Lauren, and Jessica.
Lawrence worked for Allstate for over 20 years. There, he made lifelong friendships with his
coworkers who adored his sense of humor and authenticity.
While Lawrence was a fairly private person, he was known to light up the room and was loved
by the people around him. He was intelligent, funny, and was known as “an old soul in a young
body.” He had a vast love of music, and even started playing the bass at 43. He also had a
beautiful singing voice, and loved singing to his wife. His other hobbies and interests included
Marvel and DC comics, watching movies with his family, and empowering young men with
encouraging words and financial advice.
Lawrence Chad Jenkins departed this life on April 8th, 2025, at the age of 51. He is preceded in
death by his mother, Lucy Mae Jenkins, father, Cornelius Jenkins I, and sister, Tonya
Carmicheal.
Lawrence is survived by a plethora of loved ones: his beloved wife, Shounda Jenkins; his three
beautiful daughters, Jasmin, Lauren, and Jessica Jenkins; his younger brother, Cornelius
Jenkins II; his lifelong best friend, Benjamin Coffie; his father in-law, William Day; his sister
in-laws, Reva Ballard and Marie Turnage; his brother in-law, Demetrius Williams; and a host of
nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
God saw the way was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb.
He gently closed those tired eyes and whispered “Peace Be Thine.”
