Yvonne Perkins
OBITUARY Michael Mace Perkins Sr. was born on February 11, 1948 to Lotus and Beatrice Perkins of Chicago, Illinois. He was the youngest of five children. His parents and siblings (Warfield, Lotus Jr., Kathleen and Joyce) preceded him in death. Michael's education was achieved through the Chicago Public School system. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in June of 1970. He served two tours in Vietnam and spent a year in Germany. Michael was a born leader and even obtained the rank of Sergeant E5. Michael and Yvonne met in 1973 when he was discharged from the Army. Yvonne was sharing an apartment with Michael's Aunt Sue. Aunt Sue could not wait for Michael to meet Yvonne. She would say "you will like my handsome nephew, Mike, all the girls like him." Michael and Yvonne began dating soon after meeting. They were married on January 15,1977. They have two adult sons, Michael Jr. and Mario. They are the grandparents of three children. Michael Jr.'s two daughters, Michaela and Malaika and Mario's son, Mario Jr. The grandchildren called him "Big Papa." that became his new name and he loved it. Michael worked over 30 years in the pest control business always rising to the rank of supervisor. After leading the pest control industry he worked briefly at ABJ security. Michael and Yvonne loved to travel. They went to the Bahamas twice to celebrate their wedding anniversary, loved Las Vegas and often took the children to the Wisconsin Dells. At least every other month they would take a mini trip to stay in their condo. About two years ago during one of those trips to the condo, Yvonne had a conversation with Michael that went like this: Yvonne - you know when I die I'm going to heaven. Mike - I'm going with you. Yvonne, you have to repent and ask Jesus to come into your life if you want to go to heaven. Mike - Ok. Yvonne then walked him through the six steps of salvation right there. Michael is survived by his wife, Yvonne. His children Michael Jr. (Tamika) and Mario. Three grandchildren, Michaela, Malaika and Mario Jr. Two bonus grandchildren, Gisele and Gianni. A host of relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws (William and Juanita Marshall). The family acknowledge Ms. Mecerdis Stewart who was a caretaker and friend to Michael. She helped provide excellent care for Michael during the year-long time period that he was bedridden.
